FR Disc Signal Festiniog Railway Disc Signal Kit

The kit is etched in nickel silver and features lost wax brass lamp and base details, and includes both a disc head and a rectangular "Tunnel Board" as used at Moelwyn Tunnel. The base, ladder and platform are folded from one component to ensure that all are square and at the correct angle, and of course the disc operating rod rotates correctly in the post to allow for realistic operation if required. We provide a crank for the bottom of the operating rod to link to a commercial point motor or similar mechanism. Wire is provided for handrails and only paint is required to complete the kit. The kit can be glued but we'd recommend soldering.

The Tunnel Board signals were of the same design as the disc, except that the disc was replaced with a large rectangular board. This was possibly to allow for better sighting by crews on the approach to Moelwyn tunnel as the head of the signal could not be silhouetted in daylight due to the location (but I might be wrong!).
  • Price: £9.00 for one kit to build ONE Disc OR Tunnel Board signal

You can view or download a PDF copy of the instructions here. These have recently been updated (19th May 2010) - if you bought a kit before this date please download an updated version as they contain additional detail on kit assembly.

Festiniog Railway 3-ton slate wagon loads

Our highly detailed resin-cast loads take the drudgery our of loading those long trains of slate wagons! They are available in packs of five loads to fit Parkside Dundas 3-ton (DM53). They only weigh a few grammes*, so they provide just enough weight to give these tiny wagons more stability without over-taxing your locos. The photo shows a painted load in a 3-ton FR slate wagon (wagon not supplied). The loads are supplied unpainted.

  • Price: £6.00 per pack of 5 loads

* We reckon they're actually about 3g each, but they're so light  that we don't have scales accurate enough to weigh them!

Festiniog Railway 2-ton slate wagon loads

Similar to the 3-ton loads above, but these fit the Parkside Dundas 2-ton slate wagon (DM24). The photo shows a painted load in a 2-ton FR slate wagon (wagon not supplied). The loads are supplied unpainted.

  • Price: £6.00 per pack of 5 loads

Penrhyn Railway 2-ton slate wagon loads

Similar to the FR loads above, these fit the Meridian Models 2-ton slate wagon (MPM6). The photo shows a painted load in a 2-ton Penrhyn Quarry Railway slate wagon (wagon not supplied). The loads are supplied unpainted.

  • Price: £6.00 per pack of 5 loads

Festiniog Railway four-wheel brake van

This kit represents the first brake vans used on the Festiniog Railway, three of which were introduced for the advent of passenger traffic around 1864. It is believed that the Festiniog Railway workshops at Boston Lodge built them. They spent their entire working lives facing the same way, i.e. with the balcony at the downhill, or western end of the train, and were used to brake rakes of descending goods stock, which formed the first part of downhill Festiniog trains during the 1860-80 period.

  • Price: £7.00
  • Parts Required: Peco 10'0" wheelbase wagon chassis (available from Parkside Dundas - see Useful Contacts for details), paint, transfers, couplings.
  • Availability - currently in stock

Festiniog Railway four-wheel coach

This kit can be constructed to represent either of the original types of four wheel coach used on the Festiniog Railway, which were introduced for the advent of passenger traffic around 1864. Note that the kit contains enough parts to build one coach. They were originally designated as First and Third Class and the only visible difference was that 1st Class had two equally-sized windows either side of a central door, while 3rd Class had a central window with two smaller windows on either side, as illustrated in this drawing.

  • Price: £8.00
  • Parts Required: Paint, transfers, couplings.

Festiniog Railway bogie coach No.104

Number 104 was built in 1964 as the prototype of the railway's "Centenary" stock, the first passenger vehicles to be built by railway after preservation. An identical coach numberered 106 was built in 1968. The kit represents 104 in its original form before its extensive rebuild of 1986. The kit features a fold-up body shell and a floor/chassis assembly which allows the floor, interior seats and tables to be folded up from one component. The kit also includes whells, bearings, lost wax brass bogie sides and all required screws and nuts.
